Pablo Casacuberta, 1969, Montevideo, Uruguay. Filmmaker, writer and visual artist. Master of Arts in Experimental Media, UK. His visual art has been exhibited in New York, Barcelona, Buenos Aires, Yokohama, and Venice.

 

Casacuberta started his career as a graphic designer, publishing illustrations, posters and book covers, and moving rapidly towards design for television, where his visual style received recognition and awards. He has received a Clio and was nominated for a Latin Grammy in the Best Video category. He was also a finalist for the international Sundance NHK prize.

 

He directed second unit scenes for “Children of men”, a feature film directed by Alfonso Cuarón. In 2010 he worked as a second unit director for the celebrated Nike “Write the Future” spot, which was directed by Alejandro Gonzalez Iñarritu. The spot won the Grand Prix in Cannes. He also produced second unit material for Terrence Malick in the film "Knight of cups".

 

In 1998 he directed an experimental feature film, “Another George”, shot in the UK with the collaboration of the Japanese director Yukihiko Goto. The film was later part of “Britspotting”, a showcase in Berlin that presents a selection of British independent films.

 

Pablo has published seven fiction books. He received the Uruguayan National Literature Prize in 1996. In 2007 he was selected by the Hay Festival as one of the 39 most promising Latin American writers under forty. His books have been published in Uruguay, México, Colombia, Argentina and Spain. His most recent novel, “Escipión” (Scipio), has been translated into French and Croatian.
